A Doe Run Company employee lost his life in an accident Wednesday night at
the Fletcher Mine near Bunker.

The employees name should be released later Thursday.

A statement from the company says the employee was performing a standard
safety practice of scaling the mine roof, checking for and removing loose
rock from a working mine area, when some loose material fell and struck the
cab of his equipment fatally injuring him.

No other employees were injured and all other employees working at the
Fletcher Mine have been brought above ground.

The news release says emergency rescue personnel and the Mine Safety and
Health Administration were immediately notified.

Once on site, MSHA and the company's mine rescue team secured the area.

MSHA will investigate the accident and Doe Run's operations at the Fletcher
Mine which will remain suspended until MSHA approves a return to work.

The company says they are deeply saddened by the news.
