In my opinion the pattern of examination should be practical. The renewal of competency certificate after every five years or ten years period should be adapted after taking theory and viva examinations. Of course, I am also a First Class Mine Manager (R) Competency Certificate holder (six theory papers at one time in 1991). Being mining profession located in forlorn, the managers are not remaining updated neither by technology nor by latest development in the profession. DGMS should run the refresher courses in this behalf.

I agree with you regarding examination pattern. The negative marking should be implemented in this CBT exam. The selection of first class manager will be more transparent with this negative marking. In this process those candidates will be selected who really intelligent and having knowledge of Mines regulation and they also implement the same after selection in their mine.

I altogether acknowledge beyond any doubt that there will be pros and cons in any system, but there are few concerns in this new take-up (CBT) due to this the main objective will be a deficient.

In this way obtaining 50% i.e., 40 marks in written will be an easier task and most of the candidates are getting ready to manage examiners for Orals in other ways. Already our mining industry is suffering with incompetent Managers and being lack in implementation of legislation in the Mine field.

Hence I request members in this forum to discuss thier views about this CBT exam and to present opinions for better filtration of eligible and genuine candidates to award the Manager's certificate to the deserved candidates. Actually in 2011, before implementation itself DGMS have given us chance to respond about the proposal of CBT exam by inviting our suggestions. But we have neglected the same at that time.
