Paper is liable to shrink over time. If the scale is mentioned just in numbers, it is applicable only when it is prepared. But over time, shrinking of the paper reduces the dimensions of the plan and hence the scale will be incorrect. Hence, we use 'Graphical Scale' to overcome this problem. In this case, the scale also varies along with the plan and hence measurements made using it will be accurate.
