Mine worker dies in mishap
TNN | Apr 10, 2014, 04.21 AM IST

NAGPUR: RR Nikhade, a 49-year-old worker in Western Coalfields Limited (WCL), was killed in a mine accident at Durgapur opencast mine in Chandrapur district. Rashtriya Koyla Khadaan Mazdoor Sangh (RKKMS), a major union operating in the company has blamed the management of having failed to take adequate safety measures for preventing such mishaps.

Nikhade was driving a loaded dumper downwards on a slope in the mine when its engine failed. He lost control due to which the vehicle fell in a water sump nearby killing him. RKKMS alleged that the accident could have been prevented had the management installed barricades on the route.

RKKMS general secretary SQ Zama demanded a special inquiry into the incident by the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS).
