2 dead, 4 trapped in coal mine gas outburst

Three miners have died and four others are trapped after a coal and gas
outburst at a colliery in southwest China's Guizhou Province early Saturday
morning, local authorities said.

The accident happened at 2 a.m., when 50 miners were working underground at
Huangshuiba Coal Mine in Yumo Township of Jinsha County, according to Wang
Yongfa, deputy director of the publicity department of the county authority.

Forty-five workers were lifted out. However, two of them died after
emergency treatment failed.

Rescuers found one body underground while four others remain missing.

The cause of the accident is under investigation and rescue work is ongoing.
