I have seen the mail trail and have noticed a point initially raised "Doesn't opening the existing roof bolts to secure the mesh weaken them ?" is more important than the issue of "Is fresh bolting the only way to secure it ? Coz the drillers say they have problems getting their drill bits through the mesh."

Again more important than the problem that may be caused by "opening the existing bolts" is whether it is advisable to drill holes more than appropriate density?

As drilling excessive number of holes may cause perforation for roof strata and weakening it further instead of strengthening it.

Let some more people shed light on this to make the discussion worthwhile.

Wiremess is 50 mm x 50 mm. While drill bit size is 43 mm There is no problem 😊 drilling through wiremess. It's  might be first time in mine, that's why drillers are  opposing.

Dear Sir
Our experience is there is no problem in drilling through the mesh with pneumatic or hydraulic roof bolters.

The roof is supported through resin bolts.

Dear Members,

I want to know the best procedure to install wire mesh in a coal roof having slips. The roof is already supported through roof bolts.

Doesn't opening the existing roof bolts to secure the mesh weaken them ?

Is fresh bolting the only way to secure it ? Coz the drillers say they have problems getting their drill bits through the mesh.
