Dear Rohit
Now a days dgms has almost stopped usage of OD in all mechanised mines with deep hole blasting for the purpose of safety as OD blasting with safety use in dangerous as it is not reliable and once ignited it is beyond your control.
So in this particular situation also u must go with ED but depend on particular situation like if storm has just reached then suspend blasting operation, withdraw all person and take precautions suggested by dgms.
If still time left and all clearance taken fire the shot.

Subject: DGMS Mailing List: concept of electric shot firing
Dear Sir
I want to clear my concept of electric shot firing in following conditions....
1. Charging is complete and blast holes are ready for firing. (Hole dimension: 165mm dia, parameter4.5X5.5, depth 10m, hard massive iron ore, SME-Column charge, Emulboost Cast boosters --Prime charge ,, 17m/17ms/250ms twindet)
2.When all accessories used are NONEL.
3.Sudden Electrical storm is passing above the blasting site.
4. no permission for sleeping of holes' .
5.area is maoist prone. pilferage and theft is certain.
6. blaster ready with both Ordinary Detonator (OD) and electrical detonator(ED) both.
7. Blasting officer is ready to give direction---- whether to go with OD or ED.
What decision should blasting officer take in this event ---if deep hole blast permission contains ED only.
Regards
Rohit
