Dear Mr. Subrahmanyam and friends,
It was indeed with great interest and admiration I read Mr. Subrahmanyam's mail which is to the point and provoking. However, I must clarify a few things before members begin reacting to it.
1. The unofficial website of DGMS at http://www.dgms.net though started at the time when DGMS had no website (no other Government agency had a website either at that time). It was focussed at DGMS only when it was launched. However, over the years, I decided to diversify the contents to include almost everything about mining in India.
2. DGMS Mailing List is an offshoot of dgms.net and thanks to Yahoo which offered free hosting at that time.
3. DGMS Mailing List is still being hosted on Yahoo Groups and is FREE. The cost of keeping it afloat is only internet time and content resource management. Therefore, no money is needed for it and I can easily continue to manage it through my own resources. But it will be an orphan without the linked website that is dgms.net.
4. I have managed the Website and the Group over the years through my own resources and contributions from some well meaning and generous persons. I can still continue to do so but have been wondering if the people who have benefited are willing to contribute. The experience till now has been mixed.
