Subject: PROCEEDINGS OF THE SEMINAR-SSIOMCE15
All India Seminar was organized in collaboration with IEI, IMEJ, TEQIP-II highlighting the recent advances in slope design guidelines, slope monitoring for improved safety and eco-friendly mining for sustainable development of mineral deposits of India, and also for other civil engineering applications including embankments, Dams, road ways etc. During the Inaugural function held on 25th July, 2015 (Saturday) at 10.30 A.M. at Pranakrushna Parija Auditorium, NIT, Rourkela. Shri P M Prasad, Executive Director, NTPC- New Delhi, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Shri Giovanni Funaioli, Regional Sales Manager, IDS-Italy graced the occasion as the Guest of Honor, while Prof. Sunil Kr. Sarangi , Director, NIT Rourkela, presided over the function. The convener - Prof. Singam Jayanthu welcomed the participants with introduction of seminar theme, and also the activities of Mining Engg department as HOD-In charge of Mining engineering department. Dignitaries including Sri S S Bhue-Chaiman of the IEI-Rourkela chapter emphasized on the need of such seminars on specific thrust areas of research. Co-Convener, Prof H K Naik proposed vote of thanks.
Five technical sessions were organized in Pranakrushna Parija Auditorium, NIT, Rourkela on the sub-themes of the seminar during two days along with exhibition by reputed manufacturers of various instruments in Rajendra Mishra Exhibition Hall of NIT-Rourkela. About 30 technical papers were presented and incorporated for the benefit of the readers in the proceedings released during the inaugural function. Proceedings volume included keynote addresses related to prestigious Douliganga HE project and latest statistics on safety with slope failures during 2015 in typical coal and metal mines of India. Prof K Pahak, HODF-MN, IIT-KGP, Sri Ch Vera Reddy, Former General Manager , SCCL and pesntly HOD-MN-JBIT-Hyderbad, Prof R Bera, HOPD-ECE-SMIT-Sikkim, Mrs. M Donati, IDS-Italy, Shri JK Singh, Chief Scientist-CIMFR-Dhanbad, Prof KH K Naik NIT-Roruekla, Dr Go[pal Dhawan, CMD-MECL, Shri Yateesh, Scientist, ISRO, Sri Ujjwal Tah, Director Mines –DGMS, and DR G K Pradhan , Dean , AKS University, Satna Chaired the Technical sessions.
Valedictory session was organized following visit to the laboratory facilities s of Mining, Civil , Earth and atmospheric science departments on 26thJuly, 2015 (Sunday) at 4.15 P.M. at Pranakrushna Parija Auditorium NIT, Rourkela. Shri Gopal Dhawan CMD, MECL, has graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Shri. UjjwalTaha Director of Mines, DGMS, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. Prof. Sunil Kr. Sarangi , Director, NIT Rourkela presided over the function. Proceedings and recommendation of the Seminar were brought to the notice of the delegates and invitees by Prof. S. Jayanthu, Convener. Feedback from the delegates was well taken for further interaction among the institutions for future research and academic activities for solving the problems of the industry in a more coordinated system. Prof M Panda, Co-convener proposed vote of thanks.
Through this Institute –Industry-Interaction seminar, the convener also opined that the participants will be highly benefited by the topics covered in this program which will be of practical use to the mining and civil engineering applications in dealing with slope stability issues competently and effectively with further scope of multi-disciplinary research. Instrument manufacturers arranged for exhibition of their instruments. Encouraging response was received from various industries including coal (SCCL, SECL, WCL, TISCO etc.), and non-coal (HZL, MOIL etc.) sectors and research organizations (CIMFR, ISRO etc.), institutions (IIT-Kgp, IIT-BHU, NIT-Raipur, NIT-Nagpur, NIT-Surathkal) from different parts of the country. Leading manufacturers of Mining equipments and business houses in related field such as IDS Ingeneria Dei Sistemi, AIMIL Ltd, Ground Probe, Advance Tech India Pvt. Limited, and Meatech Solutions arranged Technical exhibition, sponsorship and provided facility for demonstration.
The organizing committee expressed special thanks to Prof. D.P. Singh, Former Vice Chancellor of Lucknow University, presently Lifelong Emeritus Professor at Banaras Hindu University, Dr. T.N.Singh, Former Director of CMRI (renamed as CIMFR), and Prof Y V Rao former Director of NIT-Warangal, Sri P Ranganatheswar , Dy DG(Hq) of DGMS who had been instrumental in guiding and encouraging about conducting this seminar. Director Dr.S.K.Sarangi has been a sources of motivation, inspiration and support at all times. Under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Program (TEQIP-II) National Institute of Technology, Rourkela has supported the event by providing necessary facilities in NIT campus. Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) sponsored the event and Ministry of coal – Govt. of India extended their logo support. Kind cooperation of SSIOMCE15 committee members, all the Division Board Members of IEI, IEI-Rourkela local chapter, and Faculty/staff, students and Research scholars of mining Engg dept of NIT-Rourkela (Mr G Karhtik, Mr Bhanu chandar, Mr R Prashant), Sri. A. Sahu, Asst Editor of IMEJ, Sri R K Sinha-PRO-NIT-Rorukela is acknowledged for their help in conducting the event. Special contribution from experts belonging to Italy, USA, Australia, and Liberia is highly acknowledged.
