It is extremely disturbing and is a fall-out of recent dictate from the Ministry of Labour where mines are picked up by a computer generated programme for inspection. The earlier system of application of mind and discretion by the concerned Director of Mines Safety has been done away with on pretext of bringing transparency.
Under the current system, the officer concerned has to inspect only the mine that got picked up by the computer programme and leave behind other mines in that cluster even if they are under similar unsafe condition or even worse. This has been making the situation even worse and the DGMS Officers were being blamed for unfair and partisan approach. The result is now for every one to see.
We hope the Government at highest level with take note of the situation and take urgent steps to address it.
There are two DGMS Officers along with two DGMS Staff who have been abducted. Revealing names will not be in public interest at this stage.
